As a recent AMDA NY grad, I always tell people that AMDA is what you make of it. Speaking for the 2 years MT certificate program only, I can confidently say that it gave me all the tools I needed to go out into the industry on my own and continue to hone my craft along the way. here are a few reasons why I think Amda can be a great school for some people
CONNECTIONS
- most of your teachers are actively working/ auditioning/ casting in the industry while simultaneously teaching you, so you get a direct inside scoop on how things are currently working and you may or may not be able to work for or with them during or after you finish at Amda.
DANCE TECHNIQUE
- if you aren’t a trained dancer already, it’s definitely a huge plus that the two year program sets you up with 4 dance styles every semester that you move up in. Starting from beginner dance technique classes and getting that amount of time to work on all of it every semester literally skyrocketed my dance technique in two years.
LOCATION
- this is definitely a case by case situation based off of where you are financially. But it’s highly advised that you leave student housing after your second semester and start to settle into the city. the school it’s self is located in upper to mid Manhattan and one of their buildings is directly next to 54 below so you feel really close to your community. I believe as an alumni you also have the ability to use the dance/ voice rooms by request but I myself have yet to set that up.
I absolutely LOVED this school and it changed my life. I’ve been working nonstop since graduating.
